Choose the calculation that matches the question
Each tool answers a deliberately narrow question. The stackup builder adds nominal thicknesses. The microstrip estimator explores a zero-thickness conductor over an ideal reference plane. The via checker calculates a nominal annular ring and an aspect ratio. The panel tool counts rectangular boards in a fixed orientation. The DFM checklist helps you record release readiness.
| Tool | Useful output | What still needs review |
|---|---|---|
| Stackup builder | Nominal sum of layer thicknesses | Pressed construction, finish, mask and tolerances |
| Impedance estimator | Approximate single-ended microstrip impedance | Actual copper geometry, material behavior and field-solver result |
| Via geometry | Ring width and thickness-to-hole ratio | Drill definition, plating and registration |
| Panel layout | Board count and area utilization | Routing, breakaway features, tooling and handling |
| DFM checklist | A record of reviewed items | The actual file review and manufacturing acceptance |
Keep assumptions with the result
Planning calculations are useful when their inputs are visible. Record units, material properties, layer assignments and geometry alongside the result. Do not copy a value into a fabrication drawing without checking whether the model represents that structure.
The tools work in your browser. A calculation does not upload your design or submit an inquiry. Choosing the inquiry action stores a text brief in the current browser session so you can copy it into the form deliberately.
Know when to move beyond the model
Real boards include etching, plating, solder mask, material variation and manufacturing tolerances. High-speed interfaces may require a field solver, channel model or measurement. A via with a geometrically positive ring may still fail a registration requirement. A panel that fits mathematically may be unsuitable for assembly handling.
Use the result to frame a specific review question. Send the design files and the proposed construction when requesting engineering feedback. The agreed production package, rather than the browser estimate, defines the accepted build.
